Mountains (In honor of my husband)

First, I must pay tribute to this song....this album and this man. Nether Lands....I see myself sitting in my parent's basement at the ripe 'ol age of 15 or so, Koss phones on... ingesting the depth of this piece of art, not an album, but an experience. Actually, in some ways I was much older then, I'm younger than that now. (as the song goes)

This song spoke volumes to a teenager...."we are all vulnerable".

have climbed mountains
together
treacherous and tumultuous

We have stood
atop others
in awe of our surroundings
being surrounded by the
             vastness of present nature

We have marveled
at the heights
and found ourselves
stranded below
the towering dreams
                    we are building

We share
the vulnerability of
climbing in the dark
like rationed meals

Taking a bit at a time
together, often
sacrificing ours
when the other
            needs it more

All the while
journeying aside
each other
             vulnerability exposed

The loose ends
of our lives
tied together
as the rope that supports us
