And we saw our souls....

Another song that takes me back to my parent's basement, a young teenager, striving to be understood, loved and looking for a place to belong.

Like many of us, I went to Dan's music to feel something, to learn something and to connect to the deepest parts of myself..  Often, I found myself coveting my love for and connection to him, only sharing his poetic ways with those souls I KNEW were worthy....other old souls walking around in gawky teenaged bodies. We all felt so much older in age than we were, yet had to deal with being young. Such a bitter, beautiful pain we all bore.

It comforts me to know that as I was experiencing these deep emotional and turbulent times, many of the DanFam were in their parent's basements growing up on the soul food that is the art of Dan Fogelberg. This knowledge is what fuels the family of Dan, that our quest of knowing our souls is similar. And the truth that he knew our souls better than we did!  We all came up through the times of our lives with him to guide us and speak so eloquently for us.

We all had a safe place to BE who we truly were. We saw our souls reflected back to us.
